Discover the Sights and Sounds of Panama City!

480766536Right now is the perfect time to begin planning your summer vacation, and if you’re having trouble deciding where you should, you’ve come to the right place! After you look at the typical vacation destinations, you will soon see why a trip to Panama City is something that everyone should be considering.

Panama City has a very rich and diverse culture. After all, this is the place where North America meets South America, and where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Pacific Ocean. While many visitors come to Panama because of the Panama Canal, this old city has so much more to offer than that. What Panama City lacks in beaches, it makes up for in historic sites, shopping, and nightlife. There are plazas and palaces, churches, and plenty of places to go for a hike. Panama City is also home to a booming and expanding downtown area that is also home to great bars, night clubs, and dance spots. And if you are keen on going to a beautiful beach in a tropical climate, all you need to do is take a short boat ride and prepare to relax. The city has also been recognized by Trip Advisor as one of the Top Ten Best Latin American cities for restaurants. I don’t know about you, but that reason is enough for me to book a trip. Try all kinds of dishes, including typical Panamanian dishes like ceviche, arroz con pollo, carimanolas, and hojadras.

For those that don’t remember, earlier this year we wrote a blog, “The Top 5 Places to Visit in 2017.” Number five on that list was Panama City, Panama!

Panama Canal

492628485Panama City is famous for its canal. The Panama Canal is 48 miles long and connects the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, making it a key conduit for international maritime trading. When the canal opened in 1914, 59 ships sailed through it annually. Today almost 15,000 ships sail through the canal every year. A trip to Panama is not complete without taking a tour and learning the extensive history of the canal, preferably by boat. It takes about 6 hours to get from one side to the next.

181862574One place within the Panama Canal that visitors should make a point to see is Miraflores, one of the three locks within the canal. It offers the Miraflores Visitor Center, a walk-through museum that explains much of the history and construction of the canal.

Casco Viejo

487140286Casco Viejo is the historic district of Panama City. This area is filled with historic sites and many of the cities “must-sees” with architecture and building dating back to the 1600’s. There are churches such as the Church of Convent, plazas such as the Plaza de Independencia, museums such as the Panama Canal Museum, and much more! For anyone that loves history and culture, you will find yourself in this area of the city for day and days!

Amador Causeway

508292020The Amador Causeway is the perfect place if you are looking to take a stroll or a bike ride down a scenic road. For those that don’t know, a causeway is a road that is located above water, and the Amador Causeway offers great views of the water, marina, and boats throughout the area. There are also plenty of great restaurants and shops to check out.

The Biomuseo, also known as the Biodiversity Museum, opened in 2014 and is located on the famous Amador Causeway. The museum contains eight exhibits that all revolve around the idea of Panama’s biodiversity. The exhibitions are mainly led by the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Panama. The Biomuseo is already gaining world recognition for its unique design by renowned architect, Frank Gehry.
